Being a mentor for the KB Foundation P.O.W.E.R. Glamp Camp overnight camp for girls has been a great feeling – an experience I look forward to each year. I grew up going to camp as a child into my teenage years, and my very first job was at camp as a lifeguard, so being able to mentor and lead the girls for the weekend is not only a pleasure to witness but offers a nostalgic feeling.
Girls get an experience that some may not get any other time of the year through hands-on learning and social interaction with their peers in nature, a relaxed environment.
I support the KB Foundation because I believe in their mission and share the same values in knowing that exposure is key for youth. With this exposure, girls can see other women in these different professional fields doing the things that they are passionate about and giving back to their community. Girls can learn their likes and their dislikes. If you never try anything new, you’ll never know if you like it or not.
I think this camp allows the girls to learn themselves and appreciate what this world has to offer to them. They know that they can go after whatever they want.
The Glamp Camp has positively influenced my life because the KB Foundation now feels more like family. The connections that I’ve built over the last two years have been fulfilling and it’s good to meet other people who share the same passion and authenticity to support our youth.
Sincerely,
Alexandra Ingram, MSW
